Small Fry

Building a Need-Solution Based Organization

Small Fry is a social enterprise that harnesses the digital skills of low-income youth to drive small business growth online. I founded Small Fry to create economic opportunity for both youth and small business owners in under-served communities. To create a scalable solution, I approached the development of the organization’s business model and programs using lean start-up and design thinking methodologies.

The Deisgn Gym

Coaching Design Thinking

The Design Gyms teaches design thinking to individuals and companies to empower them to tackle their own challenges and create change. The Design Gym’s signature learning experience is the Studio Project, a multi-week workshop in which individuals learn design thinking while working with a real client. I have served as a design thinking coach for two separate Studio Projects: 1) an 8-week workshop with Viad, a live events production company, and 2) a 5-week workshop with Teach for America, a nonprofit educational organization.

Proyecto Horizonte

Streamlining Organizational Structure for Replication

Proyecto Horizonte is working to change lives in Bolivia through education, healthcare, and community development. Proyecto Horizonte was interested in streamlining their sustainable development model so that it could serve as a blueprint for other organizations around the globe. They brought me in to understand the current structure and processes, and to make recommendations for improvement based on highest areas of impact with potential for long-term replicability.

Performing Life

Evaluating Programs for Next Steps

Performing Life empowers street youth by teaching them performing and visual arts as productive skills to avoid drugs and delinquency. The organization was at a point in which they needed to decide which of their varied programs served the needs of youth most fully so that the organization could allocate limited resources to their growth. I partnered with Performing Life to understand all current program processes and outputs so that an informed decision could be made in terms of which programs needed more support and which programs should taper down.

CASE STUDY: AHA BOLIVIA

Positioning a Social Enterprise for Growth

AHA Bolivia uses ethical manufacturing to create economic opportunity and preserve culture in Bolivia. To build a more resilient organization able to meet social impact and profit goals, AHA Bolivia, the ICCO Foundation and I partnered to understand current informal production and communications processes, and to craft a solutions plan.

Global
Goods Partners

Advancing Fair Trade Practices

Global Goods Partners creates economic opportunity for women in some of the world’s poorest nations by providing them with access to the US market to sell their fair trade goods. Global Goods Partners needed to determine a strategic direction for their next fiscal year that both created the most impact in the communities they served, and generated revenue to sustain the organization. As the Director of Marketing and Operations, I was tasked with leading the strategic planning initiatives of the organization.
